David Bennett was Co-Founder and Co-Owner of Mollie Stone’s Markets (1985-Dec. 2013), aka Albeco Inc.
Mollie Stone’s Markets are a 9 store chain of Supermarkets/Specialty Foods Markets in the San Francisco Bay Area that maintains a focus on healthy, natural, local, specialty and traditional groceries. Mollie Stone’s also runs its own produce warehouse and does its own produce distribution.
David’s areas of expertise are retail strategies, driving supermarket sales, retail grocery, specialty foods, natural foods, produce, meat, poultry, seafood, supermarket deli, food service including deli meats and cheeses, prepared foods, hot table, salad bars, catering, sushi management, and sanitation. More areas of expertise include private label, P & L management, procurement, advertising, distribution, supermarket technologies, store management, management training, and regulatory issues, etc. As a former hands on operator for almost 30 years, David is well aware of today’s challenges facing today’s retail environment.
He has traveled throughout the United States and Europe visiting supermarkets and grocery stores. Some examples of David’s participation in industry continuing education includes the University of Southern California’s FIM SIM week long program and by attending meat school from IBP (Iowa Beef Packers) in the Midwest. He has also experienced visiting dairy plants, delicatessen meat processing plants, pork processing plants and chicken processing plants.
David has been a guest lecturer at Golden Gate University and San Francisco State University. He has served as on the Board of Directors of the California Grocers Association. He was elected to the Board of Directors of Unified Grocers, an S.E.C. reporting company prior to Unified Grocers being purchased by SuperValu. He served on the finance, compensation, search, and membership committees.
